Lot No. 407 #

Cornelis Kick

(Amsterdam 1634–1681)
A bouquet of flowers with a sunflower and fruit, oil on canvas, 110.2 x 91.4 cm, framed

Provenance: former collection Princes Reuss J. L., Osterstein Castle, Gera/Thuringia.

We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for identifying the artist.

The Lexikon der holländischen Stilllebenmaler im 17. Jahrhundert says about Cornelis Kick: “The still lifes of flowers and fruit by Cornelis Kick are influenced by the art of Jan Davidsz. de Heem. Unlike De Heem, however, Kick does without the motif of the tulip, as did many artists of the last third of the 17th century, preferring the poppy instead… It can be considered a typical feature of Cornelis Kick’s art that he depicted a pictorial detail from the front and back…”
